Zainab Fatima

Early life and background

Fatima's younger sisters started making YouTube videos after seeing international YouTubers do it. She first mocked them for it, then started her own channel. As a child, she wanted to be an actress, because she liked the idea of being recognised. She says she wanted to study in America from about the age of 12. [1]

Education

Fatima did her O levels at Beaconhouse Model Town. She left Beaconhouse and sat her O-level exams as a private candidate. She says she taught herself commerce for her O levels, and that she wanted to prove to Beaconhouse that she could study without its name. [1]

She did her A levels at LGS, and says she received a 100% scholarship for them. She says she began skipping study in A1 because she felt there was no point with her grades. [1]

Fatima became friends with a YouTuber she found on YouTube, because she wanted to study abroad. She says she applied to university herself, without a counsellor, and that she also applied in Turkey as a backup, in case she did not get a visa. She says the university she chose is in Texas and gave her a 100% scholarship. [1]

She says her course is strategic communications, and that she had first been choosing film, television and digital media. She felt film would not be something she was very passionate about. She says she received her visa in May and that her flight is on July 25. [1]

Career

Fatima says about 1,000 subscribers joined her channel within a month of a video from August. In September, when her A levels began, she made a video about college life in Pakistan. [1]

She says she uploaded very inconsistently in the early years of her channel, and that she did not understand how important consistency was. She says she and others made roughly 50 videos in a couple of months and uploaded nearly every day. [1]

Fatima edits her videos in Filmora and plans to move to Final Cut Pro. She says she bought a MacBook in 2018 and planned to edit in Final Cut Pro. She bought a Canon M50 camera in December 2019, and says she does not think she needs a better camera for the videos she makes. [1]

She says she wants to help other students apply abroad through her videos. She plans to make information videos about applying abroad. [1]

Views

Fatima says she has not been enjoying her own content recently. She is tired of her current style and wants to make something different, and says she wants to add some value to her content. She says that after some time people get bored, and that creators need to reinvent their videos. She says she wants to keep making videos into old age, and that her videos record memories she can relive later. [1]

She says she speaks about animal welfare on her platform, and some people reply that humans are also suffering. She says that at a market in Lahore, animals of pedigree breeds such as Persian cats are kept tied in cages and not fed. She says dogs are being killed, and that they are shot on the spot. She says people drive as if with their eyes closed, and that cats are run over. She says cats should be given water rather than milk, because milk causes digestion problems. [1]

Fatima says Islam gives women rights that society is not providing. She says she went to an Aurat March for the first time recently. She says she was told as a girl that she could not do many things she wanted to do, and she wanted to learn cycling, but her family did not think it was safe on the road. [1]

She says teachers are still working in a very outdated way, and that she does not think education is valued enough in Pakistan. She says it is wrong to devalue students for one exam result, and that competition has reached a point where people are depressed. She says viewers are too critical of the acting, given the performers are teenagers. She says she admires a person who created something instead of just sitting on a sofa and passing comments on what someone else created. [1]

Personal life

Fatima pranked her father by telling him she had got a tattoo. She says she now buys things with her own money. She says YouTube has made her much more confident than she was before, and that she has made friends through YouTube. [1]

She says she gave two of her five cats to someone else and now has three. She says her father once had 14 cats. She says she volunteers with an Instagram page. [1]
